Plant Health Australia is seeking project staff to undertake activities in surveillance and preparedness for exotic plant pests. Candidates skilled in strategy, diagnostic entomology, plant pathology, weed management, agronomy, chemical regulation and environmental management will be considered. Science communication skills would be highly valued.

The successful candidate(s) will be involved in a wide range of projects including but not limited to:

  • development of surveillance plans and protocols
  • the coordination and development of national plant biosecurity strategies, status reports and policy initiatives in plant protection, emergency management and pest diagnostics
  • projects contributing to improved plant biosecurity, including issues related to honey bees, plant biosecurity training and awareness, the development and review of biosecurity plans, farm biosecurity manuals and other material that contribute to the enhanced uptake of biosecurity activities amongst PHA members
  • the regular development of technical reports, plant biosecurity awareness material, issues papers and PHA review submissions.


The successful applicant(s) will have a graduate qualification in a science, agricultural science, environmental science or an equivalent discipline, good communication and technical skills, and desirably, knowledge of issues relevant to plant biosecurity and plant pest management.
