INTRODUCING PROFESSOR SUSAN CLARK, GARVAN INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL RESEARCH

Susan is Genomics and Epigenetics Division Head at the Garvin Institute. Over the last twenty years Susan's DNA methylation studies have initiated profound questions about the importance of epigenetics in early development and in disease, especially in cancer. She made extensive ground-breaking discoveries relating to DNA methylation patterns in normal and cancer genomes, that have led to the commercialisation of new methylation-based tests for early cancer detection.  The techniques she pioneered in the early 1990s, including bisulphite sequencing, have revolutionised and now underpin the new era in epigenomic research.

Susan will give a keynote address at BioInfoSummer.

At BioInfoSummer I was able to refresh my knowledge from studies in biochemistry and molecular biology. It also gave me the opportunity to see greater connections both within these fields, and with subsequent other areas of study.
