Sent on behalf of Matthew Colless, Chair, National Committee for Astronomy
I’m writing on behalf of the National Committee for Astronomy to invite you to a launch and update of events for the International Year of Astronomy in Australia, to be held at the National Science and Technology Centre, Questacon, 10:00-11:00 am on Wednesday 28 January.
Professor Penny Sackett, Chief Scientist of Australia, will formally launch the Year’s activities in Australia and comment on the International IYA program. There will be updates from several speakers about IYA activities in train, particularly Canberra events and education/outreach programs.
The formal proceedings will run for about 40 minutes, and be followed by morning tea. Attendees may wish to stay on after the event for informal discussions. A meeting room will be available.
The event will take place in conjunction with a meeting of the Australian SKA Coordination Committee’s Education Advisory Group, so there will be an opportunity to talk to members of this group about education and outreach activities specifically pertaining to the SKA.
I look forward to seeing you at this event.
